Weighted questions allow teachers to assign different point values to questions in their assessments. Teachers can adjust the weight of a question (its value in points) when creating new assessments or editing existing assessments.

How to Use Weighted Questions

Teachers can adjust a question’s point value by using the number input next to the question, either with the up/down arrows or by typing a designated number. Be sure to click the checkmark to save your changes once the value is set.

When assigning the point value, you can enter a value up to two decimal places. For example, 1.25 points.

Questions can also have a value of 0 points. This may be used for survey questions or checking student understanding/confidence on a concept without affecting their assessment grade.

Once you adjust the point value of one question, the point value for all other questions will become visible as well. Questions will be worth 1 point as a default if the point value is not adjusted.

How Students See Weighted Questions

Students will see the point value of the question during the assessment directly below where the question is asked. When a student answers a question correctly, they automatically earn the full point value for that question.

Partial Credit for Short Answer Questions

You may choose to assign higher point values to more challenging short answer questions. If a student is partially correct, they can still be awarded a lesser amount of points by using the manual grading option.

🚨Manual grading is only available for short answer questions. Other question types can either be awarded the full point value or no points.
