You can assess student work in a way that fits your teaching style using numerical scores, written feedback, or even emojis.
💯 | 10/10 | Great job! — how will you choose to grade?
As assignments start to build up over the term, keeping track of student progress can quickly feel overwhelming! Teachers need a simple, efficient way to monitor submissions, provide feedback, and ensure no one falls behind. That’s where Showbie’s Gradebook comes in - a powerful yet easy-to-use tool that gives you a clear overview of all classroom activity in one place.
What Is the Gradebook?
The Gradebook in Showbie is a centralized hub where teachers can view assignments, track student progress, and assign grades. Whether you prefer numerical scores, written comments, or emojis, it allows you to tailor feedback to suit each student’s needs. Its design emphasizes clarity and accessibility, helping you quickly identify which assignments or students require attention.
How to Access the Gradebook
Getting started is simple. Navigate to the class you want to review, tap the three-dot menu (“…”), and select Gradebook. From there, you’ll see a structured overview of all assignments and their associated grades.
From there, you'll be able to see your assignments and grades all in one place:
Filtering and Organization
If your class uses folders, the Gradebook includes filtering options to help you stay organized. Tap the dropdown menu at the top of the screen, then select a specific folder to view only the assignments within it.
This is especially helpful for larger classes or courses with multiple units.
Flexible Grading Options
One of the standout features of Showbie’s Gradebook is its flexibility. Teachers can provide:
Numerical grades for precise assessment
Written comments for detailed feedback
Emojis for quick, expressive responses
Grades appear in a yellow bubble, making them easy to spot within student assignments. If a grade is updated, the latest version automatically appears at the top, ensuring students always see the most current feedback.
Here’s how grading appears from a student’s perspective:
The other icons in the Gradebook show the current status of each student’s activity. This status is set either by you (the teacher) or by the student, and indicates whether the work has been submitted, and whether feedback or a grade has been provided.
Exporting and Managing Data
For record-keeping or further analysis, Showbie allows you to export your Gradebook data. Tap the Share icon in the top-right corner to download all entered grades as a CSV file - making it easy to integrate with other systems or maintain offline records.
You can add assignments to the Gradebook at any time through assignment settings, giving you full control over what gets tracked. When creating an assignment, simply toggle the “Include in Gradebook” option.
Why the Gradebook Matters
At its core, the Gradebook is more than just a grading tool - it’s a way to enhance communication and support student growth. By providing clear insights into assignment status and enabling personalized feedback, it helps teachers respond more effectively to student needs.
✍️ You can always add an assignment to the gradebook at anytime via assignment settings!
