Assessment Insights help teachers, school leaders, and administrators understand assessment results at a glance. Use it to identify students who need additional support, evaluate assessment quality, compare performance across classes and schools, and monitor trends over time.
This article explains what information is available, how to interpret each dashboard, and some of the questions Assessment Insights can help answer today.
Before you start
Assessment Insights surfaces data for assessments that live in Assessment Libraries. Assessments from Personal Libraries are not accounted for.
Data refreshes once per day - very recent submissions may not appear immediately.
You can filter the data by Library Name, Assessment Name, Passing Mark (defaults to 70% but can be customized), and Time Period, from the last 7 days up to 2 years.
You can select multiple assessments and multiple libraries at once to view them together.
All quizzes part of shared assessment libraries are viewable.
Understanding What Assessment Insights Shows
Assessment Insights is designed to help educators answer important questions about student achievement, assessment quality, curriculum effectiveness, and organizational performance. The following are questions you may be seeking the answers to and how to use/or view the data to answer your queries.
Data Available at a Glance
Total Attempts - the number of assessment submissions received
Completed Attempts - number of submissions marked complete
Completion Rate - % of submissions completed, for the selected assessment(s)
Average Score
Pass Rate - based on your chosen passing mark
Completion vs. Attempts - completion rate broken down by school and class
School Performance -% correct by question, across schools
Question Deep-dive - per-question stats, distractor analysis, and a by-school breakdown
Class breakdown - class-level performance, within a single school
Mastery bands - % of students in each proficiency band (e.g. at risk vs. mastered) for an assessment
Trend over time -how completion and pass rates move across assessment cycles

What Data Can be Targeted via Insights
The examples below highlight some of the most common questions Assessment Insights can help answer, but they are by no means exhaustive. Use the available filters to explore your assessment data and uncover additional insights relevant to your school or organization.
Student Performance
Are there assessment questions that many students struggled with?
Use School Performance by question to identify assessment questions with lower success rates. This can help pinpoint concepts that may need reteaching.
What misconceptions are students demonstrating?
For multiple-choice questions within Item Analysis, use Distractor Analysis to highlight the most commonly selected incorrect answers. This helps identify misconceptions and determine whether further teaching or clarification may be needed.
Comparing Performance
How does a class compare with the rest of my organization?
Set your view to Class, School, or District/Trust, then look for "vs. District avg" to see how that range of numbers sit against the wider organization. For example, focusing on a single School and comparing to the District average shows whether a trend in that school is isolated or shared across the organization. The same logic applies one level down when scoping to a Class within a School!
How do schools compare with one another?
Compare assessment outcomes across schools to identify strengths, variation, and opportunities to share best practice. School Performance surfaces cross-school variation per question; the district/trust-average on each row shows which schools sit above or below the norm.
Which schools demonstrate particularly strong outcomes?
Look for schools with a consistently positive trend change versus the district average in School Performance - these are good candidates for sharing effective practice.
Where should leadership attention be focused?
Use School Performance, Trend, and the comparison views together to identify schools with declining attainment, subjects needing extra support, and areas of significant variation.
Assessment Quality
Is this assessment appropriately structured?
Pass Rate is your main signal today to look towards. A pass rate clustered very high (e.g. ~85%+) or very low (e.g. ~25% or below) can suggest the assessment isn't discriminating well between stronger and weaker students.
Is a question measuring understanding effectively?
Use Distractor Analysis to see whether the most common wrong answer looks like a genuine misconception or a confusing question. If a distractor is picked at a similar rate across every school, that points to the item itself rather than teaching differences.
Are similar assessments producing consistent results?
Select multiple related assessments to compare them side by side using Trend and School Performance. This is useful for checking whether several assessments covering the same content are telling a consistent story.
Trust & District Oversight
Are schools using the expected assessments?
Assessment Insights reports participation through key performance indicators which help identify schools that may not yet be engaging with an assessment.
Total Attempts and Completion Rate show participation per school, making it easy to spot schools that haven't yet engaged with an assessment.
Are trust-wide improvement initiatives working?
Use organization-level Trend data to monitor whether outcomes move in the right direction following a trust-wide initiative.
Are we improving over time at trust level?
Use Change Over Time to analyze the same quiz across different cohorts across various time points. Here, also view year over year analysis.

Good to know
✍️ Total Attempts counts submissions, not students. If Multiple Attempts is enabled on an assessment, one student can submit more than once, so Total Attempts may run higher than your roster count.
