Who can make and join a community?
Only teachers can create communities and be community owners. Other teachers, parents, and students are able to join communities. If you do not need parents or students to join the community, you can toggle off their ability to join in the Community Settings.
How to set communities to be open, join by approval, or closed
By default, when you create a community, it will be open for members to join. Then, in two weeks, the community will automatically change to join by approval. This is so you don't need to remember to switch your community to join by approval! Showbie will do it for you automatically to keep the community secure.
Open - Members can join with the community code and have access to the community right away.
By Approval - Members can join and will get a message saying "Waiting to Join Community" until you approve their request.
Closed - No new members can join the community.
To change your community join settings:
Go to the community and tap the 3 Dots in the top Right.
Then tap on Community Info and select Community Settings.
Here you can switch the registration to join by approval/ closed/open, and hit Save.
If you set registration to be open, it will automatically switch to be joined by approval after 2 weeks.

How members join your community
First, find your community code by clicking into the community and clicking the Three Dots in the top right. Then tap on Community info. Your community code will show here.
Next, you can privately give this code to community members, who can log in to their Showbie accounts to join the community. (Please do not post community codes in public places.)
Community members can select communities in their accounts. Then click the "+" icon, select to join a community, and enter the community code here.

If your community is set to Join by Approval, then the members will get a message saying "Waiting to Join Community", and won't be able to see the community discussion until you approve them.

How to approve members to join your community
If your community is set to join by approval, once a member enters the code to join your community, you will get a push or email notification to let you know they are waiting to be approved to join.

You can click into the notification to go into Showbie to approve them to join. Or you can go into your Showbie account, go to the community, and tap the 3 Dots in the top Right. Then tap on Community Info and select Community Members.
Community members waiting to be approved will have a red, 'Waiting to be approved' icon next to their name. You can tap on them, then tap Approve or Block.
If you do not recognize a member who is requesting to join your community, wait to approve them once you've verified they are supposed to be part of your community.
