Just as you would tidy your classroom at the end of the school year, you may be wondering what you can do to tidy up in Showbie. Here are a few housekeeping tips to set your future-self up for success!
Teacher End-of-Year Checklist
Curate Student Portfolios
Save content to Student Portfolios to capture and share all the progress your students have made. Student Portfolios follow the student throughout their academic journey.
If Student-led Portfolios is enabled for your class, students may add work to their portfolio themselves, otherwise teachers may add items for them.
You might also prompt students to complete a year-end reflection to save to their portfolio in order to highlight their progress and provide evidence of their learning journey for years to come.
💡 Note: Portfolio work remains visible to students even after the class has been archived!
Archive Your Classes
To keep classes and groups tidy and secure for you and your students, we recommend archiving or deleting them once they're wrapped up for the year.
We recommend only keeping classes active into another school year if they contain the same cohort of students continuing their education on the same topic
Archiving classes can be done easily through your class settings and will hide them from your (and your student's) class lists
You can enable Show Archived Classes from the wrench menu on the home page at any time
You can also delete classes after they have been archived, but note that this is a permanent action and cannot be undone!
💡 Efficiency Tip: Want to reuse class material for the next year's class? No problem! Teachers maintain view-only access to archived classes which allows you to copy the class and/or individual class resources without having to restore.
Copying a class duplicates class content only (does not include students) - so all you have to do is add your new cohort of students to the class and you're all set!
Manage Remaining Classes and Groups
We recommend securing remaining active classes over the summer while the teacher isn't there to monitor content.
Pausing student posts in class discussion prevents unmonitored discussions between students over the summer
Groups settings can be changed to "announcement only" so that only group owners can post while other members have view-only access
Consider clearing class (and group) discussions so that students can start fresh the following year
If a new teacher is taking over your class
Provide the new teacher with your class code so that they can join your class as a co-teacher
If you no longer need access to that class, you can leave it once they join so that they become the owner
Alternatively, your Showbie Admin can assign co-teachers to your classes for you from the Admin Dashboard
